Diaverum Portugal and M42 hosted a symposium lunch as part of Encontro Renal 2026 (the 40th Portuguese Congress of Nephrology and the 40th APEDT Congress), held on 8 October in Braga. The session focused on one of the key challenges in caring for people with chronic kidney disease: managing cardiovascular disease in patients undergoing dialysis.

Under the theme “Cardiovascular disease in dialysis: are we doing enough?”, the session provided an opportunity to reflect on and share knowledge about the importance of a structured approach to cardiovascular risk management in haemodialysis. It explored strategies for integrating this approach into clinical practice and contributing to better health outcomes.

The symposium lunch featured Dr Fernando Macário, M42 Group Chief Medical Officer, who chaired the session; Dr Carlos Lucas, Diaverum Vice President of the Corporate Medical Office, who moderated the discussion; and Professora Dr.ª Carla Santos, from M42’s Corporate Medical Office, who presented on “Why a Structured Cardiovascular Disease Management Program in Hemodialysis?”.

The clinical perspective was complemented by Dr Nadica Misovska, Diaverum’s Country Medical Director in North Macedonia, who presented the approach to implementing structured care in haemodialysis.

The discussion highlighted the importance of systematically assessing cardiovascular risk and adopting structured strategies to support healthcare professionals in managing cardiovascular disease in patients receiving haemodialysis.

This initiative reinforces Diaverum’s commitment to clinical excellence, innovation and knowledge sharing, fostering collaboration between healthcare professionals and organisations to address the challenges associated with chronic kidney disease.
