Diaverum Portugal stood out at the 2025 Diaverum Awards, which globally recognised the commitment and excellence of the employees who embody Diaverum’s values and mission every day.
Nurse Gabriel Alpalhão was the grand winner in the Passion category, distinguished for his dedication, humanity and commitment to caring in haemodialysis. Pharmacist Inês Parente Martins was a finalist in the Competence category, representing Portugal among the network’s top professionals.

Portugal was also represented in the For Life category, with recognition awarded to the teams from Portugal and Spain, who ensured full care delivery during the blackout, demonstrating resilience, teamwork and a true commitment to patients.
The Managing Director of Diaverum Portugal, Sofia Correia de Barros, emphasised the significance of this recognition:
“The Diaverum Awards are a global acknowledgement of how the finalists and winners live out Diaverum’s values and mission in their daily work. It is a great honour to see this recognition go to Gabriel Alpalhão (Passion Award), Inês Parente Martins (Competence Finalist) and to the entire team who ensured complete care delivery during the blackout (For Life Award). Congratulations to Inês and Gabriel, and a heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to the 80 nominations received. Without them, this recognition would not have been possible!”
Nurse Gabriel Alpalhão, winner of the Passion Award, shared his reflection:
“Being recognised in the ‘Passion’ category is an honour and, above all, a profound motivation. Working in haemodialysis means facing daily challenges that demand technical skill, empathy and humanity — and this distinction reflects not only my commitment but also the effort and dedication of all the colleagues and team members who walk this path with me. Caring in haemodialysis is much more than performing a treatment — it is building relationships, promoting autonomy and restoring hope. This Diaverum award reminds me that true impact is born from collective dedication, shared knowledge and the passion with which we make a difference in the lives of those we care for.”
The Diaverum Awards are a global initiative that annually recognises employees and teams who best reflect Diaverum’s values: For Inspiration, Competence, Passion, For Life and True Care.
In addition to Portugal’s achievements, the following were also recognised:
-
Competence: Zhanuzak Yesselbayev (Kazakhstan)
-
Inspiration: “Healthy Kidneys” Initiative (Poland)
-
True Care: Magali Bourgeois (France)
Diaverum Portugal congratulates all awardees and thanks all professionals who contributed with more than 80 national nominations, reinforcing the spirit of commitment, dedication and care that defines our community.
