On May 15, 2025, Diaverum Portugal, in collaboration with NOVA Medical School, organised the "Nutrition 4.00 All" symposium, an event dedicated to managing nutritional risk and promoting nutritional literacy among healthcare professionals and institutional partners.

Held in the Sala dos Atos of NOVA Medical School, the symposium brought together specialists in nephrology, clinical nutrition, nursing, social work, pharmacy, and institutional catering to discuss key issues related to Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), including its impact on health, associated nutritional risks, and the challenges of nutritional support for institutionalised patients.

Throughout the event, several roundtable discussions addressed different perspectives on nutrition in the context of CKD. Highlights included discussions centred on the patient as the focus of care, and the importance of adherence to therapy and nutritional interventions through nutritional literacy and effective communication as a means to improve compliance, maintain good nutritional status, and ultimately enhance quality of life. These sessions also featured the participation of individuals living with CKD. Professionals, institutions, associations, and specialists shared their experiences and insights, enriching the debate and promoting an interdisciplinary approach to nutritional care in nephrology.

One of the highlights of the symposium was the presentation of the MedCook Book, a recipe book initiative aimed at encouraging the creation of meals adapted to the needs of chronic kidney disease patients, which will soon be available online. This project not only promotes culinary creativity but also reinforces the importance of proper nutrition as an integral part of haemodialysis treatment and of improving patients’ quality of life. During the session, prizes were awarded to the winners of the MedCook Challenge 2025, recognising the effort and innovation in creating recipes that combine flavour and health.

The Nutrition 4.00 All symposium underscored the importance of events that promote the sharing of knowledge and experiences among healthcare professionals, with the aim of improving the quality of life of patients with chronic kidney disease. Through collaboration between institutions such as Diaverum Portugal and NOVA Medical School, the commitment to continuous education and the implementation of effective nutritional practices in CKD treatment is reinforced. Initiatives like this are key to raising awareness and empowering healthcare professionals to provide more informed and patient-centred care.

We extend our congratulations to all those involved in organising and driving this symposium, especially to Diaverum’s Nutritionists, who are true examples of professionalism—both in initiatives like this and in daily clinical practice.
